The Smith Pursuit sunglasses bridge the gap between goggles and performance eyewear, delivering full-coverage protection with the airflow and comfort of sunglasses. Co-designed with backcountry skier Cody Townsend, the Pursuit builds on the proven Wildcat platform with enhanced features for alpine adventures—from boot packs to descents, ski touring to mountain biking.
At the heart of the Pursuit is Smith’s ChromaPop Glacier Photochromic lens, which automatically adapts from 7% to 45% visible light transmission. This wide range handles everything from bright glacier conditions to overcast skies without a lens swap. The photochromic molecules react to UV light rather than temperature, so the lens transitions quickly even in cold environments. ChromaPop technology filters overlapping wavelengths to boost color and contrast—greens look greener, terrain features pop, and you can read snow texture more accurately in flat light.
The Pursuit’s shield shape offers a massive, unobstructed field of view (148mm wide by 66mm tall—larger than the Wildcat). Magnetic side shields snap on and off easily to block peripheral glare and wind on exposed ridges. A removable nose guard adds extra sun protection for high-altitude missions. The lightweight Evolve bio-based frame uses a screwless hinge—one less thing to fail in the backcountry. QuickFit temple arms adjust for a custom fit, and Megol nose pads and temple tips grip better when you sweat. An optional goggle strap clips into the arms to lock the glasses down during high-speed descents or rough terrain.
The Pursuit is prescription-ready via Smith’s ODS5 adapter, which snaps into the nosepiece without compromising fit or field of view. Each pair includes a bonus clear lens for low-light conditions and a low-profile hard case that fits the glasses, extra lens, and all accessories without eating up pack space.
If you’re serious about backcountry skiing, mountaineering, or long mountain bike rides in variable conditions, the Pursuit is built for you. It’s overkill for casual use, but if you need goggle-level coverage with better ventilation and lighter weight, this is the answer. The photochromic lens means you can leave your goggle bag at home and run one piece of eyewear from dawn patrol to afternoon sun.
