Built from Oakley’s proprietary O-Matter frame material, the Coupler 8053 delivers exceptional durability without the weight penalty. O-Matter is a nylon-based thermoplastic that’s 25% lighter than traditional acetate and twice as strong, with controlled flexibility that enhances impact resistance. The material resists UV radiation, thermal shock, and environmental extremes.
The half-rim construction keeps the frame light on your face while the adjustable nose pads let you dial in a custom fit. Both the nose pads and earsocks are made from Unobtanium, Oakley’s proprietary grip material that actually increases traction as you perspire. Originally developed for bike grips, Unobtanium ensures the Coupler stays put during activity without pinching or slipping.
The Coupler’s temples borrow design cues from Oakley’s popular Sutro sunglasses, known for their bold, urban-cyclist aesthetic. The rectangular lens shape suits medium to larger faces, and the semi-rim design keeps sightlines open while maintaining structural integrity.
