Built from Silhouette’s proprietary SPX®+ polymer composite, these full-rim frames deliver the comfort of a rimless design with the durability and lens security you need for daily wear.
The 1601 is constructed from SPX®+, a polyamide-based material Silhouette developed in 1983 and has refined for over 40 years. It’s twice as strong as conventional acetate, yet nearly 40% lighter—a combination that eliminates pressure points on the nose and behind the ears during all-day wear. The material is hypoallergenic, flexible enough to contour to your face, and maintains its shape without warping. Each frame is hand-dipped to achieve the gradient color effects you see in options like Tricolore Grape, Mint Gradient, and Smoky Blossom.
Unlike injection-molded acetate frames, SPX®+ uses composite molding technology that fuses different hardness levels in a single frame—softer material over the temples for comfort, harder material in the front for stability. The integrated screwless hinge design means fewer failure points and a cleaner, more modern look.
The 1601 features a softly upswept cat-eye silhouette that flatters round, oval, and heart-shaped faces by adding lift and definition to the upper face. Available in two sizes—52mm and 54mm lens width—with a 15mm bridge and temple lengths of 130mm or 135mm, the frame accommodates a range of face widths. The full-rim construction provides maximum lens stability, making it compatible with single-vision, progressive, high-index, and photochromic lenses.
