The R229 is a full-rim butterfly frame in stainless steel. Nothing in the sizing is gender-specific. The 57-16-145 figures put the lens at 57 mm with a 16 mm bridge and 145 mm arms. A butterfly front opens up the upper face.
A full rim holds the lens on all four sides. A single bar runs across the nose. The wire rim holds the lens with less material around it.
